Helen’s specialisms and approach

ADHD and Neurodivergence

Helen works with adults who are exploring ADHD or living with a diagnosis. This includes those experiencing overwhelm, burnout, emotional intensity, or difficulties with organisation, focus, and follow-through.

Sessions combine counselling and coaching, offering both reflective space and practical support. This may include developing strategies around emotional regulation, routines, prioritisation, and managing day-to-day challenges, as well as exploring self-esteem, identity, and experiences such as shame, guilt, or feeling “too much” or “not enough.”

Helen also supports clients before and after an ADHD diagnosis, helping them reflect on their experiences, understand ADHD traits, and make sense of their personal history.

Neurodivergent and Mixed Neurotype Couples

Helen works with couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent. She understands that differences in communication, emotional regulation, and processing styles can create misunderstandings and repeated conflict.

Therapy provides a structured and supportive space where both partners can explore their experiences, improve communication, and develop ways of relating that take into account each person’s needs. The focus is on helping both partners feel heard and understood, while working through patterns that impact the relationship.

Emotional Regulation, Burnout and Trauma

Helen supports clients experiencing anxiety, burnout, and the impact of trauma. She works with patterns of overwhelm, emotional reactivity, and shutdown, helping clients develop awareness of their nervous system and responses.

Her approach includes grounding, regulation strategies, and somatic (body-based) awareness alongside talking therapy. Clients are supported to understand triggers, build resilience, and develop more stable ways of responding to stress.

Therapeutic Approach

Helen takes a structured yet flexible approach, adapting the work to each client’s needs, pace, and goals. She integrates counselling, coaching, psychoeducation, and somatic awareness, ensuring that therapy is both reflective and practical.

Her approach includes four interconnected elements:

1. Safety and Understanding
Helen begins by creating a grounded and non-judgemental space where clients feel safe to explore their experience. This includes building emotional awareness and understanding how patterns have developed over time, particularly in relation to neurodivergence, relationships, and past experiences.

2. Psychoeducation and Clarity
Using clear and accessible explanations, Helen helps clients understand how ADHD, trauma, and relational dynamics affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. This often brings relief and validation, reducing shame and self-blame.

3. Practical Change and Skill Building
Helen supports clients to develop realistic and sustainable strategies that fit their lives. This may include tools for emotional regulation, communication, organisation, and boundary setting, helping clients move from insight into action.

4. Integration and Moving Forward
As therapy progresses, the focus shifts to consolidating change and strengthening new patterns. Clients are supported to build confidence, self-trust, and a way of living that feels more aligned, manageable, and sustainable.
