Therapy for Expats & International Clients

Heathwell is a multilingual, multicultural therapy practice offering online therapy to adults and couples living abroad, including expats, third culture kids, and international professionals based across Europe and beyond. We offer therapy in nine languages across our team, and many of our therapists have themselves lived and worked across different countries, bringing personal experience of migration, relocation, and adapting to new cultural environments alongside their clinical training.

We understand what it can feel like to live between places, languages, and ways of being. There is a particular kind of distance that can emerge even when life looks settled from the outside, and this can place real pressure on relationships, identity, and your sense of connection to others and to yourself.

We also recognise that in many expat and international communities, social and professional circles can be small and closely interconnected. Finding a space for therapy that feels private, separate, and unconnected to your immediate environment matters, and it's something we've built our practice around.

What brings people to therapy when living abroad

People come to us with a wide range of experiences connected to living, working, or building relationships away from home. For some, particularly those who grew up moving between countries as third culture kids or have lived in several places as adults, the difficulty is less about one specific event and more a sense of being between identities, or not fully at home anywhere.

Common experiences include:

  • Trying to settle into a new environment while finding it difficult to connect or feel a sense of belonging, even after the practical parts of relocation are behind them

  • Relationship difficulties, including changes that have followed a move, or the aftermath of infidelity, often without close support nearby

  • Cultural differences between partners, and shifts in relationship dynamics following a move

  • Distance from family, including more complex or painful dynamics that living abroad has made harder to address

  • High-pressure work environments without a stable support system

  • Understanding yourself and your relationships within neurodiverse or mixed-neurotype dynamics

  • Relationship patterns that feel difficult to shift, and a wish for space to understand them more clearly

Couples Intensives

Some conversations don't fit neatly into an hour a week. For couples who want to make focused, meaningful progress in a shorter space of time, we also offer couples intensives.

  • These can take place online, in London, or, where available, we can travel to you

  • An extended, uninterrupted block of time with a therapist, from a half day to a full day, or across two to three days for more sustained work

  • Space to work through a difficult period, understand what has happened, and begin to rebuild, within the same sitting rather than stretched across months

  • No need to work around weekly sessions, time differences, or a trip to London — the therapist can come to where you are
