Julio'’s approach and specialisms
Julio's approach is collaborative, practical and tailored to the needs of each individual, couple or family. He begins by developing a strong therapeutic relationship before drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches to support meaningful and lasting change. Depending on your needs, he integrates person-centred therapy, solution-focused therapy, strengths-based approaches, motivational interviewing and family systems therapy. When working with couples, he also incorporates principles from the Gottman Method to strengthen communication, rebuild trust and help partners develop healthier ways of relating to one another.
Expat & International Clients
Julio has extensive experience supporting expats, internationally mobile professionals, military families and international students. Having lived and worked internationally himself, he brings both professional expertise and personal insight to the complexities of building a life between cultures.
He also works with international and intercultural couples, helping partners navigate cultural differences, expectations and communication styles that can shape their relationship. Therapy provides a space to better understand one another's perspectives, strengthen communication and develop ways of relating that honour both partners' cultural backgrounds and values.
Julio's integrative approach is particularly well suited to international clients. His person-centred approach provides a supportive space to explore identity and belonging, while his systemic understanding helps individuals, couples and families recognise how culture, relationships and life transitions influence one another. Drawing on solution-focused and strengths-based approaches, he also helps clients build on their existing resilience and develop practical ways of adapting to change without losing sight of who they are.
Sessions are available in both English and Spanish, allowing clients to work in the language in which they feel most comfortable expressing themselves.
Couples Therapy
Julio works with couples from a wide range of backgrounds, including intercultural couples, LGBTQ+ couples and partners in ethical non-monogamous (ENM) and polyamorous relationships. He provides a balanced and supportive space where both partners can feel heard, understood and equally involved in the therapeutic process.
His work is informed by specialist training in Couples Counselling and Psychotherapy with Tavistock Relationships, one of the UK's leading centres for relationship therapy. Drawing on Family Systems Therapy and the Gottman Method, Julio helps couples understand the patterns that shape their relationship, improve communication, rebuild trust and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.
Alongside exploring the underlying emotional and relational dynamics, Julio also uses solution-focused and strengths-based approaches to help couples recognise what is already working well within their relationship and build practical strategies for creating lasting change.
Family Therapy
Families naturally change over time. Life transitions, conflict, separation, parenting challenges, cultural differences or changes in family roles can place pressure on relationships and leave family members feeling misunderstood or disconnected.
Julio works with families to better understand the patterns that influence family life and the ways in which each person's experiences affect the wider family system. Therapy provides a structured and supportive space where family members can listen to one another, explore different perspectives and work towards healthier ways of relating.
His approach is grounded in Family Systems Therapy, recognising that difficulties rarely exist in isolation but develop within the context of relationships. Rather than focusing on one individual as the problem, therapy explores how family dynamics, communication and life experiences interact, helping families develop greater understanding, strengthen relationships and navigate challenges together.
Drawing on person-centred, solution-focused and strengths-based approaches, Julio helps families build on their existing strengths while developing practical ways of managing conflict, supporting one another and adapting to change.
LGBTQ+ Relationships, Ethical Non-Monogamy and Polyamory
Julio provides an affirming and inclusive therapeutic space for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples and families, as well as people in ethical non-monogamous (ENM) and polyamorous relationships. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself, he brings both professional expertise and lived understanding to his work, while recognising that every person's experiences, relationships and identity are unique.
He works with clients exploring identity, coming out, family relationships, minority stress and self-acceptance, as well as couples and partners navigating communication, trust, boundaries, intimacy and relationship transitions.
Julio recognises that healthy relationships take many different forms and works without assumptions about what relationships "should" look like. Whether clients are in monogamous, non-monogamous or polyamorous relationships, therapy provides a respectful and non-judgemental space to better understand relationship patterns, strengthen communication and make decisions that reflect each person's values rather than social expectations.
Drawing on Family Systems Therapy, his specialist training in Couples Counselling and Psychotherapy with Tavistock Relationships, and the Gottman Method, Julio helps clients understand the relational dynamics shaping their lives while developing healthier and more fulfilling ways of relating to one another.
Anxiety, Low Mood and Life Transitions
Julio has particular experience supporting people whose anxiety or low mood has developed during periods of significant change. This may include relocating to another country, changing careers, adjusting to a new culture, navigating relationship difficulties or balancing the demands of a high-pressure profession.
His integrative approach combines person-centred, solution-focused and strengths-based therapies to help clients better understand what is maintaining their difficulties while identifying practical ways of creating change. Therapy is tailored to each individual, supporting clients to build confidence, strengthen resilience and reconnect with the parts of life that matter most to them.
