Therapy for Expats in Monaco

Specialist support, wherever you are

Specialist therapy for expats living in Monaco. Supporting individuals and couples through online therapy in multiple languages, alongside in-person therapy intensives.

From the outside, life in Monaco can look close to perfect. Behind that, we regularly hear the same thing from clients: a sense of carrying pressure alone, of not being able to talk openly within a small community, and of relationships and mental health quietly slipping while everything else appears to be going well.

Heathwell works with individuals and couples living in Monaco and along the neighbouring Riviera, including Monte Carlo, Nice, Cap-d'Ail, Beausoleil and Menton, offering a space that is genuinely confidential and built around the realities of this particular kind of international life.

Why Monaco Is Different

Monaco is small. Everyone tends to know everyone, professionally and socially, which makes privacy a real concern rather than a nice-to-have. Many of our clients specifically choose online therapy because it means never having to be seen walking into a clinic, and never having to worry about a shared acquaintance in the waiting room. This isn't a minor convenience, it's often the reason people finally reach out at all, having held off for years for exactly this reason.

Couples Intensives

Given how demanding life in Monaco tends to be, with long hours in finance, private banking, family offices or luxury industries, and near constant travel, weekly therapy is often simply unrealistic. This is precisely why couples intensives tend to suit our Monaco clients particularly well.

Instead of twenty-four weekly sessions stretched across six months, the same depth of work happens across four hours, a full day, or two to three consecutive days. Intensives can take place in person in Monaco, in London, or anywhere else you would prefer, with our therapists travelling to a location of your choosing, or entirely online if that suits you better. For couples working through betrayal trauma, deciding whether to stay together, or simply wanting to invest concentrated time before a major decision, an intensive removes the usual constraint of never having quite enough time in a single session to get anywhere.

A Specialist Team That Understands International Life

Our therapists are psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and couples therapists, working across CBT, EMDR, psychosexual therapy, and both brief and long-term approaches. Most bring more than a decade of clinical experience, with many having also worked in academic settings, the NHS and other medical services, and the third sector.

What often matters most to our Monaco clients, though, is that many of our expat-specialist therapists have lived this life themselves: working internationally, raising a family across cultures, or growing up as a third culture kid. That combination, serious clinical depth alongside real lived experience of a life like yours, is not something you find in a generalist practice.

Individual Therapy

We work with people across finance, private banking, luxury goods, hospitality, motorsport and family businesses, as well as those who moved to Monaco for a partner's career or to raise a family somewhere new. A common thread we see: loneliness that persists despite an active social calendar, because so many relationships in Monaco carry a transactional undertone that makes real connection harder to find.

Common reasons clients come to us include burnout and chronic stress, anxiety, low mood, grief and major life transitions, questions of identity after relocation, and reverse culture shock. We also see many adults with ADHD, often diagnosed later in life or newly considered once relocation disrupted the coping strategies that had quietly held things together for years. Others come to us working through relational trauma or the aftermath of narcissistic abuse, needing a space to make sense of what happened and rebuild a sense of safety and trust.

Couples Therapy

This is one of our strongest areas of expertise. Relationships that were stable before a move to Monaco often begin to show strain once the pressures of this particular environment take hold: demanding careers, long hours, a social world where discretion is currency, and less time together than either partner would like.

We support couples through recurring conflict, emotional distance, and betrayal trauma following infidelity, as well as differing expectations around money, family or lifestyle. We also work with neurodiverse and mixed neurotype couples, including relationships where one or both partners are navigating ADHD, helping partners understand each other's needs and communication styles rather than reading differences as a lack of care. For couples affected by narcissistic abuse or wider patterns of relational trauma, we offer a considered, informed space to work through what happened and decide, together or separately, how to move forward.
