Vicky Ashraf is a BACP-accredited Counsellor, Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, ADHD Therapeutic Coach and Clinical Supervisor with over 17 years of counselling experience. She has been in private practice since 2011 and has previously worked across NHS Occupational Health, schools, Manchester Rape Crisis and Childline.
Over the course of her career, Vicky has developed particular expertise in ADHD and relationships involving mixed neurotypes. She is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist and has completed specialist training with Aspire Autism Consultancy in working with neurodivergent couples and relationships.
Vicky specialises in supporting adults with ADHD, particularly women who have been diagnosed later in life or are exploring whether they may have ADHD. She also works extensively with mixed-neurotype couples, including ADHD and non-ADHD partners, ADHD and autistic partners, and couples where both partners have ADHD.
Her approach is integrative and neuro-affirming, combining relational therapy with psychoeducation and practical support. Her own experience of receiving an ADHD diagnosis later in life also informs her work, alongside her professional training and clinical experience.
Vicky also offers ADHD coaching through the Access to Work (AtW) scheme, supporting clients whose ADHD affects them in the workplace. This can include support with organisation, prioritisation, time management, overwhelm, communication and developing practical ways of working that are better suited to their individual needs.

Vicky’s approach and specialisms
Vicky is an integrative counsellor and couples therapist whose work is grounded in a warm and collaborative therapeutic relationship. She works relationally, creating space for clients to explore difficult or vulnerable experiences while adapting the pace and direction of therapy to the individual or couple.
Her practice is neuro-affirming. She recognises differences in communication, attention, sensory experience and emotional processing and adapts her work to the people in front of her. She combines emotional exploration with psychoeducation and practical strategies where these are useful.
In her couples work, Vicky draws on her certification in Imago Relationship Therapy and specialist training in working with neurodivergent couples and relationships through Aspire Autism Consultancy. Her lived experience as a woman diagnosed with ADHD later in life also brings an additional perspective to her work, alongside her professional training and clinical experience.
Mixed-Neurotype Couples Therapy
Vicky has particular expertise in working with couples where partners have different neurotypes. This includes ADHD and non-ADHD partners, ADHD and autistic partners, and couples where both partners have ADHD.
Differences in attention, communication and emotional processing can affect how partners understand one another. They can also become visible in everyday areas of the relationship, including household responsibilities, planning, remembering commitments and managing the mental load.
Vicky works with couples experiencing recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, unequal mental load and parent-child dynamics. Her neuro-affirming approach helps both partners understand what is happening between them without positioning either person's neurotype as the problem.
Her certification in Imago Relationship Therapy complements her specialist neurodivergence training. Imago dialogue can help partners slow conversations down, listen more carefully and understand the meaning behind one another's responses. This can be particularly valuable when two people process information, emotions or communication differently.
Vicky can also introduce ADHD psychoeducation and practical strategies where appropriate. This combination helps couples distinguish between neurodivergent differences and wider relationship patterns, while finding more workable ways of communicating, sharing responsibility and staying emotionally connected.
Couples and Relationship Therapy
Vicky also works with couples experiencing relationship difficulties that are not specifically related to neurodivergence. She supports partners dealing with recurring arguments, communication breakdown, emotional distance and difficulties feeling heard or understood.
As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, Vicky helps couples look beneath the immediate conflict and understand the patterns that have developed between them. Imago Relationship Therapy pays particular attention to how each partner experiences the relationship and how earlier experiences can influence sensitivities and responses in adult relationships.
Structured dialogue is an important part of this work. It helps partners slow down difficult conversations and move away from familiar patterns of defensiveness or misunderstanding. Both partners have an opportunity to express their experience and understand what may be happening beneath the conflict.
Vicky works with the relationship rather than identifying one partner as the problem. She helps couples recognise the cycle they have become caught in and develop different ways of communicating, listening and reconnecting with one another.
ADHD Therapeutic Coaching
Vicky offers ADHD therapeutic coaching for adults, with a particular interest in women who have received an ADHD diagnosis later in life and those who are beginning to explore whether they may have ADHD.
Her approach combines counselling with ADHD psychoeducation and practical coaching strategies. This allows the work to address both the practical difficulties associated with ADHD and the emotional impact of living with them.
Vicky works with overwhelm, executive functioning difficulties, emotional regulation, burnout and difficulties with motivation or maintaining routines. She also supports clients with self-esteem, perfectionism, people-pleasing and boundaries, particularly where years of struggling or feeling misunderstood have affected how they see themselves.
Rather than using standardised strategies, Vicky works collaboratively with clients to find approaches that are realistic for their own lives and ways of functioning. Therapeutic coaching can include practical strategies and gentle accountability alongside space to understand the emotions and experiences underneath the difficulties.
Vicky's own experience of receiving an ADHD diagnosis later in life gives her an additional understanding of the questions around identity and self-understanding that can emerge following diagnosis. She brings this perspective to her work while recognising that every person's experience of ADHD is different.
Self-Esteem, Overwhelm and Relationship Patterns
Alongside her specialist couples and ADHD work, Vicky supports adults experiencing low self-esteem, overwhelm, burnout, difficulties with boundaries and people-pleasing. She also works with clients who want to understand recurring patterns in their relationships or the ways they respond to other people's expectations.
Her integrative approach allows this work to explore the experiences and relationships that have contributed to how a client sees themselves and why certain patterns can be difficult to change.
The therapeutic relationship is particularly important in this work. Vicky offers a warm and non-judgemental space to explore shame, self-doubt and experiences of feeling misunderstood.
Where practical changes would also be useful, she can combine therapeutic exploration with strategies for boundaries, emotional regulation and managing overwhelm. The work is adapted to the individual rather than following a fixed programme.
