Men’s Group

An open-ended therapeutic men’s group in Blackheath, London

A place for men to speak openly, develop stronger connections and explore what being a man means to them

Men can experience considerable pressure to cope privately, remain in control and avoid showing vulnerability. This can make it difficult to talk honestly about relationships, loneliness, identity, emotional difficulties and the experiences that have shaped them.

Our Men’s Group brings together men from across London in a confidential and professionally facilitated setting. It offers an ongoing place to speak openly, listen to other men and explore experiences that may be difficult to discuss elsewhere.

The group is held in Blackheath Village and is easily accessible from Lewisham, Greenwich and other parts of South East and central London.

Who is the Men’s Group for?

The group is open to men of all ages who want to understand themselves more deeply and develop more open and meaningful ways of relating to others.

You may be:

  • Feeling isolated or disconnected from other people

  • Finding it difficult to talk openly about how you feel

  • Experiencing relationship or communication difficulties

  • Questioning your identity or direction in life

  • Exploring what masculinity means to you

  • Adjusting to separation, loss or another significant life change

  • Reflecting on your relationship with your father

  • Feeling pressure to manage everything alone

  • Wanting stronger and more supportive connections with other men

You do not need to be experiencing a crisis or have attended therapy before. You may join because you are facing a particular difficulty or because you want a regular place for reflection, connection and personal development.

What will the group explore?

The group will be shaped by the experiences and concerns brought by its members. Themes may include:

  • Isolation, loneliness and connection

  • Relationships, intimacy and communication

  • Emotional awareness and expression

  • Identity, purpose and life direction

  • Expectations of masculinity

  • Vulnerability, strength and self-reliance

  • Fathers, fatherhood and absent fathers

  • Separation, loss and significant life transitions

  • Anger, conflict and emotional withdrawal

  • Developing more supportive relationships with other men

The group gives members an opportunity to hear other men’s experiences, recognise shared struggles and consider different perspectives. It can also help men become more aware of how they relate to others and experiment with different ways of communicating within a supportive setting.

Why join a therapeutic men’s group?

Men have always learned from other men. Within a carefully facilitated therapeutic group, supportive, emotionally open and empowering ways of relating can be developed and practised.

Many men have limited opportunities to speak honestly with one another. Conversations may remain focused on work, activities or humour, leaving little room for emotional experiences, relationships and uncertainty. Over time, this can contribute to loneliness and a sense of having to manage difficulties alone.

A men’s group can provide connection, support and accountability. It also offers an opportunity to examine inherited ideas about masculinity and develop your own understanding of the kind of man, partner, father or friend you want to be.

There is no prescribed idea of what masculinity should look like. Members are encouraged to explore their own experiences, values and identities.

Your group facilitator

The group is facilitated by Arran Knight, a BACP-accredited Psychosynthesis Counsellor specialising in men’s mental health, couples therapy and relationship difficulties.

Arran has extensive experience facilitating therapeutic groups for men. He has undertaken specialist training in men’s group work and also trains other practitioners in this area. His approach draws on psychosynthesis, attachment and relational therapy.

Arran is particularly interested in how early relationships, experiences of being fathered and inherited ideas about masculinity can shape men’s emotional lives, relationships and experiences as parents.
