Laura Stannard

Laura is a psychosexual and relationship therapist with a Level 7 postgraduate qualification in Clinical Sexology from the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology (CICS). She works with individuals and couples on intimacy, desire, sexual difficulties and relational connection. Laura has a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent and mixed neurotype couples, helping partners understand each other’s internal experience, communication styles and sensory needs. Her approach is trauma informed, consent led and grounded in an understanding of how the nervous system and early relational experiences shape the way we connect with others.

Laura brings together psychosexual therapy, relational models and a neurodiversity affirmative stance that prioritises inclusion, clarity and compassion. She supports people to build relationships that genuinely reflect who they are rather than who they feel they should be.

Laura’s approach and specialisms

Neurodivergent and mixed neurotype relationships

Laura has a strong focus on neurodiversity within relationships and holds a Certificate in Neurodivergent Wellbeing. Her work begins with understanding each relationship as it is. Neurodivergent or mixed neurotype couples often navigate differences in communication styles, sensory needs and emotional rhythms. This includes relationships where one or both partners are autistic or ADHD. These differences can easily lead to misinterpretation, withdrawal or conflict when not understood.

Laura helps partners build shared language around their internal experience and recognise how neurodivergent patterns shape relational dynamics. The work focuses on reducing blame, strengthening clarity and developing an inclusive relational structure that meets both partners’ needs. She supports couples to feel more understood, more connected and more able to negotiate their differences with compassion and curiosity.

Sexual difficulties and psychosexual therapy

Laura supports clients experiencing vaginismus, sexual pain, erectile difficulties, anxiety about intimacy and desire differences. She draws on contemporary psychosexual approaches including sensate focus and non demand intimacy work, with adaptations that honour pacing, bodily autonomy and emotional safety.

Her work helps clients understand how psychological and physiological factors interact, particularly when there has been trauma, shame or long term relational stress. Therapy aims to reduce fear based cycles, rebuild confidence and support a more grounded relationship with intimacy and pleasure.

Relational Life Therapy and attachment work

Laura’s relational work is informed by Relational Life Therapy which emphasises mutual respect, relational accountability and the influence of early attachment patterns on adult intimacy. She helps couples explore how protective strategies shaped in childhood show up within the relationship and how these patterns maintain cycles of conflict or disconnection.

Therapy focuses on developing clearer communication, softening defensive roles and building a more balanced and collaborative way of relating. Laura works with couples at depth, supporting a more authentic and emotionally attuned connection.

Inclusive relational therapy

Laura works with clients in a wide range of relational structures including child free partnerships, step parenting, blended families, LGBTQ plus relationships and consensually open or non monogamous relationships. Her work is grounded in ethical practice and harm reduction. She supports clients to explore intimacy, identity and relational choice in ways that honour their values, boundaries and lived experience.
